Harland Engineering, originally based in Alloa, Scotland, was a prominent manufacturer of pumps, turbines, and engineering equipment. The company had a significant presence in the UK and became known for its work in hydroelectric and industrial pump systems.

Harland’s connection to Australia began in 1941 when it formed a 50/50 joint venture with Industrial Engineering Ltd (IEL) to create Harland Engineering Australia. This collaboration aimed to manufacture and supply pumps locally, especially during wartime needs. Over time, Harland Engineering Australia’s portfolio expanded, contributing to various infrastructure projects, including Australia’s Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme in the 1950s.

In the 1970’s, Harland UK was acquired by Weir UK who sold their 50% stake in Harland Australia to lndeng, so Harland Engineering Australia then became IEL Pumps, also known as lndeng Pumps.

Today, the Heritage Intellectual Property (IP) of Harland Pumps Australia, resides with the manufacturer United Pumps.
